Creating and managing our own venture has provided us the opportunity to grow as students and potentially as future entrepreneurs. This semester, we learned how to develop a product that is accepted by the market, sell the product, and pitch our business concept to investors interested in our product. The most important concept that was taken from this project is that understanding the market is the key to being successful. Clemson University has over 20,000 students that are potential customers; however, most of these students do not have money to spend on homemade products. With only a semester to develop and sell a product, we created the business concept of selling raffle tickets for $1 a piece and giving the money to charity. The business concept later developed to become a non profit marketing firm that raises capital for charities while marketing services online and on college campuses. This semester we tested our business concept by working with Anderson County PAWS where we tested various fundraising and marketing strategies. We determined that customers are more open to purchasing a raffle tickets if animals are present and that not all companies are willing to donate a raffle ticket even if they can receive a tax return. In addition, we learned how to create a legal name, learned the laws and regulations of charities and nonprofits, and how to grow and advance as a team.
